Our Japanese Matcha Collection
Japanese matcha is a finely ground green tea powder traditionally crafted from shade-grown tea leaves and stone-milled into a smooth, vibrant powder. At Premium Health Japan, we curate authentic Japanese matcha sourced from Uji and select tea regions across Japan, with a focus on freshness, clarity of origin, and traditional production methods.
Our Japanese matcha collection is organized to reflect both traditional Japanese tea craftsmanship and practical daily use. It includes rare Signature matcha from exceptional harvests, single-cultivar matcha that highlights the character of specific tea varieties, balanced ceremonial blends for smooth traditional preparation, and everyday Uji matcha in larger formats for regular enjoyment. Each matcha is crafted in small batches in Japan and shipped fresh worldwide.
What Is Japanese Matcha?
Japanese matcha is made from young green tea leaves that are shaded before harvest to increase chlorophyll, amino acids, and aroma compounds. After harvesting, the leaves are quickly steamed, dried, and processed into tencha. The tencha is then stone ground into a fine powder using traditional granite mills.
Unlike brewed green tea, matcha is consumed whole by whisking the powder with hot water. This preparation method delivers an intense green color, a smooth texture, and a balanced flavor that combines umami, natural sweetness, and gentle bitterness.
Japanese matcha is known for its vibrant green color, rich aroma, and creamy texture when properly prepared.
Matcha Powder for Traditional and Modern Use
Our Japanese matcha powder is suitable for both traditional preparation and contemporary use. Many people first experience matcha whisked with hot water in a bowl, producing a smooth, frothy drink that highlights the tea’s natural flavor.
Others enjoy matcha with milk as a matcha latte, or blended into smoothies, desserts, and cooking. The versatility of matcha makes it easy to incorporate into daily routines while still respecting its traditional roots.
For the best experience, matcha is typically consumed immediately after preparation, while its aroma and texture are at their peak.
Ceremonial Grade Matcha vs Culinary Grade
Matcha is commonly grouped into ceremonial grade and culinary grade, though these terms are not formally regulated in Japan. Understanding the difference helps you choose the right matcha for your preferences.
Ceremonial Grade Matcha
Ceremonial-grade matcha is produced from younger leaves and carefully selected tencha. It is intended for drinking on its own, prepared with hot water and whisked to a smooth bowl. This style emphasizes smooth flavor, low bitterness, vibrant green color, and a refined aroma.
Culinary Grade Matcha
Culinary-grade matcha is typically used for cooking, baking, and mixing with other ingredients. It may have a stronger, more robust flavor that holds up well in recipes such as smoothies, desserts, and lattes.
Our collection focuses primarily on high-grade Japanese matcha suitable for drinking, while also offering options that perform well in modern applications.
Stone-Milled in Japan for Flavor and Texture
All of our Japanese matcha is stone ground using traditional mills in Japan. Each stone mill produces only a small amount of matcha per hour, helping preserve aroma, color, and texture. This slow grinding process results in a fine powder that whisks smoothly and creates a creamy, well-balanced bowl.
Matcha is crafted in small batches to maintain freshness, as ground tea is sensitive to light, heat, and oxygen.
Flavor, Texture, and Preparation
High-quality Japanese matcha is recognized by its bright green color, fine texture, and smooth taste. When prepared with hot water and whisked properly, it produces a creamy bowl with minimal bitterness and a lingering umami finish.
Matcha can also be prepared with milk, blended into smoothies, or used in cooking, depending on the style and grade. Because matcha contains caffeine and naturally occurring L-theanine, many people enjoy it as part of a daily ritual rather than consuming multiple cups at once.
