A Traditional Japanese Sweetener, Refined for Modern Use

This Okinawa black sugar syrup is made using traditional Japanese kokuto, known for its deep, mineral-rich sweetness and complex flavor.

Unlike standard sugar syrups, this product is built on a foundation of authentic brown sugar sourced from Okinawa and carefully refined in Japan into a smooth, ready-to-use syrup. The result is a product that retains the character of traditional kokuto while offering the consistency and ease of use required in modern cafés and kitchens.

What Makes This Syrup Unique

This syrup is formulated using approximately 40% Okinawan brown sugar, combined with raw sugar from Tokunoshima in Kagoshima. This balance allows the syrup to deliver a strong, authentic flavor while maintaining stability and usability in beverages and desserts.

Traditional kokuto is known for containing natural impurities due to its minimally processed nature. In this product, those impurities are carefully removed through fine filtration, resulting in a smooth and consistent syrup that is ready to use without additional preparation.

The product also meets the standards set by the Okinawa Brown Sugar Cooperative Association. Products carrying this classification must contain a significant proportion of Okinawan brown sugar, ensuring authenticity while allowing for practical formulation.

Crafted in Osaka by a Specialist Sugar Producer

This syrup is produced in Osaka by a long-established Japanese sugar manufacturer with over a century of experience in brown sugar processing.

Using carefully selected raw materials sourced from Okinawa and Kagoshima, the production process is designed to preserve the depth and character of traditional kokuto while ensuring consistency and usability in modern applications.

The facility operates under ISO 9001 and ISO 22000 certifications, maintaining high standards of quality control and food safety throughout production.

From Sugarcane to Syrup

The sugarcane used to produce Okinawan brown sugar is harvested during a limited season from December to April. This restricted production window, combined with environmental factors such as typhoons and climate conditions, makes supply naturally limited.

Raw brown sugar is also sensitive to long-term storage, as it can gradually lose flavor and color over time. These factors contribute to the careful sourcing and controlled production process used in this syrup.

Flavor Profile

This syrup offers a deep, rounded sweetness with notes similar to molasses and caramel. It has a rich body, subtle mineral complexity, and a long, smooth finish that complements both beverages and desserts.

Perfect for Matcha and Café Applications

This syrup is particularly well suited for matcha, where its depth of flavor enhances the natural umami of the tea.

It can be used in matcha lattes, hojicha lattes, coffee drinks, and milk-based beverages. It also works well in traditional Japanese desserts such as warabi mochi and kakigori, as well as in modern applications like ice cream and pancakes.

For Cafés, Brands, and Bulk Orders

Due to its consistency and ease of use, this syrup is widely used in professional environments.

Storage and Handling

Store in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight. Refrigeration after opening is recommended to maintain freshness.

Natural sediment may occur due to the mineral content of the brown sugar. This is normal and does not affect quality.
