Takayama Chasen – Sakura Charm (Pink Thread) | Handmade Bamboo Matcha Whisk
Product Info
A limited Takayama chasen, handmade in Japan — this whisk is produced in Takayama-cho (Ikoma, Nara), the historic home of Takayama chasen-making. Each chasen is crafted by hand in the traditional way, with skills passed down in Takayama since the Muromachi period (over 500 years).
Our Pink Thread / Sakura Charm edition includes a delicate sakura charm and pink wrapping detail, making it a beautiful gift or a special upgrade for your daily matcha ritual.
Why this chasen is different
- Handmade, one by one using time-honored Takayama methods — not mass-produced.
- Carefully prepared bamboo: traditionally, high-quality bamboo is selected (often 2–3 years old), oil is removed, it’s sun-dried, and then rested/aged before crafting.
- Made for real matcha: fine tines help whisk smooth, glossy usucha foam and reduce clumping.
How to use
- Before whisking, soften the tines by soaking the whisk tips in warm water for 10–20 seconds.
- Whisk briskly in a “W” motion until a fine foam forms.
- Tip: If your charm lightly rattles, hold the charm gently while whisking.
Care & storage
- Rinse with clean water immediately after use (no detergent).
- Shake off excess water and air-dry completely.
- For the best shape, store on a whisk stand (chasen-tate).
Note: Because bamboo is natural and each whisk is handmade, slight variations in color, grain, and finish are normal and part of the authenticity.
